Alexis Caught MBACP

Integrative Psychotherapist & Counsellor

I am a fully qualified, NHS trained clinical psychotherapist & counsellor  with a Masters degree (Distinction) in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy. My approach (integrative) means that I have trained in a range of different techniques, theories, approaches and philosophies, and devise a unique way of working with each person in front of me, recognising that a one-size-fits-all approach rarely fits anybody. As such, we tailor our way of working together based on your needs, my understanding of your challenges and experiences, and what resonates with you. Theories I draw from include;

  • Person Centred/Humanistic Counselling: grounding all work in meeting people as they are, through a lens of equality (between you and I) that is
  • Queer Theory & LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapies (including Gender Sexual Romantic Diversity): recognising that those of us who identify within the LGBTQ+ community face unique pressures and struggles which require their own approach, understanding and training.
  • Existential Psychotherapy: drawing from the great philosophers of the 20th century, this school explores the meaning of life, and what gives our time here purpose.
  • Systemic & Liberative Psychology: understanding that many of our experiences of mental ill-health are the results of systemic pressures (culture, politics, work, the economy), and when these fail, it is often us who bears the brunt of the fall out.
  • Solutions Focused Therapy: to recognise that we don’t live in an ideal world, and sometimes we need to find ways of coping in imperfect situations.
  • Narrative Therapy: exploring the multi-layered narratives we've all had put upon us (by parents, society, culture) and separating what's "them" and what's you to create a harmonious way forward.
  • Compassion Focused Therapy & third-wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: utilised to help create behavioural change & tackle anxiety/intrusive thoughts.

Specialist Areas

As well as the broader topics of mental health & wellbeing, I have trained specialisms working with;
  • LGBTQ+ mental health and identity
  • Compulsive Sexual Behaviours (formerly known as sex addiction)
  • Shame
  • ChemSex Recovery
  • Professional Burn Out

How We Work Together

Initial Consultation: it’s important that you have confidence we can work together, so our initial conversation is a short (15 minute) free call where you can talk a little about what brings you to therapy, and ask me questions (for example, how I may conceptualise working together). Should we decide to work together, we then decide between…

Short term focused work: some people have clear, hyper-focused, issues. Through my NHS clinical background, I have experience in delivering targeted, time limited therapy to focus on one specific issue which is bothering you (for example, struggles relating to compulsive sexual behaviours, or challenges pertaining to a period of work stress/instability, or a triggering event/milestone.)

Open ended therapy: this is a longer term approach, which is open ended and explorative as we tackle multi-layered levels of your identity, history and shine a light into your future. For those in recovery, this can also be used as a regular check in as part of your sobriety/recovery journey.

Together, we can discuss what approach might be right for you.

My fees begin at £80 a session for individual, and £130 for couples work, payable in advance (incl. VAT).
